It can be frustrating when a QR code doesn't scan. Here are the most common reasons and solutions.

1. Low Contrast

QR scanners need contrast to distinguish the code from the background.

• Problem: Light code on a light background (e.g., yellow on white) or dark code on dark background.
• Fix: Always use a dark foreground (black, dark blue) on a light background (white). Inverted codes (white on black) are supported by many modern scanners but can still be risky.

2. Too Complex (Static Codes)

Static QR codes store data directly. The more data you add, the denser the dots become.

• Problem: A URL with 100+ characters makes the dots tiny and hard to scan.
• Fix: Use a URL shortener or switch to a Dynamic QR Code, which keeps the pattern simple regardless of the URL length.

3. Size is Too Small

• Problem: Printing a QR code smaller than 2cm (0.8 inches).
• Fix: Ensure your QR code is at least 2cm x 2cm (1x1 inch). For billboards or posters, use the 10:1 ratio rule (scanning distance : code size). If scanning from 10 meters away, the code should be 1 meter wide.

4. Broken Link

• Problem: For Static codes, a typo in the URL means the code is dead.
• Fix: Always test your QR code before printing! If you used a Dynamic code, simply update the destination URL in your dashboard.

5. Damaged or Distorted

• Problem: The paper is crumpled, or the QR code is stretched (aspect ratio not 1:1).
• Fix: Ensure the image is a perfect square and placed on a flat surface.
